South Beach Media® provide SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) service to our clients. Our clients are able to upload and download files to our server. When using SFTP instead of the FTP, the entire login session, including transmission of password, is encrypted.

Minimum Requirements

To access the South Beach Media file server via SFTP you must have:

 

  1. An account(username and password)
  2. Our hostname or IP address
  3. An SFTP client -- we recommend using the client available on WinSCP.
Quick Steps

  1. Open SFTP client
  2. Connect to the SFTP IP address
  3. Enter Username and Enter password

Installing the Client for Windows

Note: These instructions are based on using the SSH client for WINDOWS available on WinSCP. (Macintosh users should download FUGU.) To obtain the software, visit WinSCP and follow these steps:

  1. Click on Download Now.
  2. Scroll down to and click on Installation package
  3. Save the file to your desktop
  4. When the application has finished downloading, find winscp376setup.exe and double click on it to start the installation process. Be sure to let it do the default installation
  5. Click on Next for all the steps for default installation

Once the WinSCP installation is complete, you will have one new icon on your desktop:

  1. Secure File Transfer (WinSCP3) Client

Connecting to the Server

  1. Open the Secure File Transfer Client.
  2. 1

  1. In the Host Name field, enter the IP Address
  2. In the User Name and Password
  3. Leave the other fields alone.
  4. Click Login
    1. The first time you will be prompted "to save the host key to the local database", click “Yes”
  5. A listing of files and directories will appear.
  6. Use the SFTP client to copy, paste, rename and delete files from your local machine disk (left pane) to the file server (right pane).

  8. If you do not have permission for an operation you are attempting, you will receive a message saying "permission denied"

Installing the Client for MAC OS 10.x

Note: These instructions are based on using the SSH client for Macintosh OS X available on FUGU. To obtain the software, visit Fugu and follow these steps:

  1. Click on Fugu-1.2.0-English.dmg link to down load
  2. Save the file to your desktop
  3. When the application has finished downloading, find Fugu-1.2.0-English.dmg and double click on it to start the installation process. Be sure to let it do the default installation

Connecting to the Server using Fugu

  1. Open the Secure File Transfer Client.
  2. In the Connect to: field, enter the IP Address
  3. In the Username filed enter the User Name
  4. In Port filed enter 22 and leave the other fields alone
  5. Click Connect
    1. Enter the password and click on Authenticate
    2. The first time you will be prompted "to save the host key to the local database", click “Yes”
  6. A listing of files and directories will appear.
